What UR did was to uncover the not-so-beautifull Detroit, they presented to the world the second generation of Detroit Techno under the banner "Hard Music for a Hard City". Hardcore? It's understandable that someone may think of it as hardcore compared to techno at that time, but UR is definitly *not* hardcore - at least in the sense that hardcore =gabber, etc. They are innovators that draw new paths for music and communication. UR planted more landmarks in the history of electronic music than anyone else. Electronic Warfare, The Final Frontier, Codebreaker, Vintage Future, Afro-Germanic, Mirage, Knights of the Jaguar, each of these songs showed the world that UR can go any direction they want, and still innovate. Much respect. You might want to check it out just in a couple of weeks since the translations are *still* being made) http://mycal.net/ifj/ur/ There's also another UR page at the pHinweb (http://www.sci.fi/~phinnweb) but I don't have the address handy. You should also do a web search using the words "mike banks speaks". You'll find a message from Mike Banks that everybody should read once in a while. "Hardcore"... jesus christ...
