Detroit was representin' in San Francisco last night. Alan Oldham played a
really good driving set at the Listen.com event, preceded by my friends Forest
Green and then Andy J (Astral Matrix) playing live. And Carlos Souffront was
there too, taking it all in; I believe he's on the bill tonight at the same
location (the Rawhide II at 7th & Folsom). Carlos is in town for about a
week, doing the tourist thing and checking out the record stores :)

I also went over to the King St. Garage for the XLR8R party with Stacey
Pullen and Derrick May. This was less than wonderful, which is no surprise
given my lengthy and difficult history with 174 King. I only caught the end
of Stacey's set, and everyone seemed pretty into it, but Derrick's was all fits
and starts. Giving due, the crowd wasn't really focused either. I've had some
great nights at King St but this wasn't one of them.

Anyway, I finally got to see AO, and you have to admit, the man really enjoys
what he does :) There was a problem with a loose floorboard, and even though
the event manager put some foam underneath the turntables before his set,
the needles were bouncin'. So Alan stops the music, explains the situation
and says, "you know, I really can mix" or something to that effect :) After
everyone close in backed away a bit, things were fine after that, and he gace
us maybe not the totally banging stuff but pretty much, which is quite something
to see in San Francisco.
