As far as Herbie Hancock goes, I'd recommend these five albums for starters - there's plenty more but these would be a good starting point... Headhunters Thrust Manchild [these three are the classic funk-influenced Herbie albums before he went really cheesey] Sextant Crossings [these two are more experimental/electronic - much less accessible. But 'Hidden Shadows' off 'Sextant' is still in the running for my favourite piece of music of all time] For a general guide to some essential jazz and funk masterpieces, I'd recommend Kirk DeGiorgio's excellent 'Hall of Fame' on http://www.kirkdegiorgio.com/ Cheers, Tom
