One more thing on my theory and I will shut up, and I notice this factor to
very prominent in Detroit (thus making it somewhat relevant to this list)

There is a _large_ faction of people who do/listen to "real techno" for no
other reason that it being simply "proper".  I remember a debate with
another tech-head about the Jeff Mills "Live in Japan" CD.  There were many
points where the mixing was simply off, and I vocalized this to my friend.
His response was "That's how proper techno is done, dude, it's Jeff Mills,
he knows what's up more than you I think!!"

Of coarse, many people will argue against him, but the fact is that he was
liking something for utterly wrong reasons, and the same goes for a lot of
tech freaks who enjoy minimalism solely for the novelty or elitism factor,
thus making my theory about Toneshifting a rarely realized or admitted
occurrence...
