i guess ill chime in, since i was there front row and mid center...

Kenny Larkin: brought up some great, interesting topics that should have been expanded on IMHO, but got washed out because of lack of time. He also served as the tension/comic relief when things seemed to get a bit think b/t flash and jon

Acquaviva:Seemed to be the grounder on the panel and the one who brought some discussions over to techno when flash was taking it far into hip hop. To hear John finally speak on some stuff was great-very nice and humble person it seemed from what he had to say. I wish he could have spoken more.

LTJ:was er...very English in his silence.? I think me, and a lot of others, thought it would have been great to hear him say more, esp. with the British take on things and coming from a dnb angle. It really is unfortunate that he didn't say more, as when he did speak it was poised and well put. As for performance...it was a treat to hear him play to such a small crowd in that kind of setting-im sure its rare.

KB&GMF: I'll group these together, because they seemed to talk together. GMF had a lot to say, and often too much. His schooling was necessary but also seemed as if nothing new was being said. Though a presence like GMF was needed, i think between the two they seemed to weight the discussions-not letting the others get a word in edge wise.Yes, they were funny and educational but i think the moderator could have done a bit more to keep the panel even-esp. with LTJ.

overall: my one beef is no femmes on the panel. Laura Gavour (sp-sorry, hun) was in the audience and I think it would have been great to throw her up there (since James Pennington was MIA) and hear what she had to say, as she was involved in early transmat and so on-which would have given the panel some one outside of the early plus8 camp from detroit.

the discussion could have gone on longer-and i do think performance could have been sacrificed a bit for so. just as it was getting interesting and true and the panel started to relax-it was 'push back the seats and performance time!'....bringing the atmosphere from one level oooooooooooooover to another.

ill stop there, as at this point im a bit tired of talking about it in general. hopefully the host learned more and will do this again, though.

I was at the A2 evening - LTJ did a nice set. He had an MC doing some
fairly dancehall sounding vocals over what he played, but it seemed to be
good. I don't know, I'm not a big fan of the records he played.

Kurtis Blow was Kurtis Blow (if you've seen the man you understand.)

Flash was amazing. He's been doing this for 25 years or so - he's got all
his skills down pat. He's also an amazing performer, in the non-DJ sense
of the word. He had the crowd on a string, and took them through his own
"History of Hip-Hop" over the course of about an hour and a half.

Decent crowd, although not as good as I think they were hoping for, and I
had hoped to see Larkin or Acquaviva spin too.
