However, this may not be what you're asking about. A
year or two ago there was an album of orchestrated Kraftwerk covers that's
also supposed to be worth a listen. I have no info on that though.
having searched for a copy of this for years i finally got it on cd
(delivered yesterday!!!! :)) from www.hmv.co.uk and i've got it with me in
work today so i can give you the full rundown.
the album is "Possessed" by The Balanescu Quartet, released in 1992 on Mute.
catalogue number is CDSTUMM111. 5 Kraftwerk covers. *really* beautiful
interpretations of the originals and imho it's almost as if the Kraftwerk
tracks were meant to be played by a string quartet all along.
the Kraftwerk covers are:
1) Robots
2) Model
3) Autobahn
4) Computer Love
5) Pocket Calculator
there are also 4 other tracks. 3 Alexander Balanescu compositions and one
track written by David Byrne, "Hanging Upside-Down" (i guess this is a
Talking Heads cover?).
