BACKGROUND about Paxahau's new partner on the DEMF Design Contest.

The 323 East group is owned by Mike McKool, who's a really progressive
person in the city. He's done some incredible things over the past
year in the city, including opening a very cool gallery, running
successful local artist booths at various festivals, and also
partnering with Detroit's favorite Funk Night (recently rated best
party in America). Funk night has been running for 8 years, started
by People's Records, and I'm not sure if their new partnership with
McKool is to credit or its their new venue (the Russell Industrial
Center), but in the past 4 months, they have exploded in size. Going
from an average of 300-600 people per event to 1400 paid through the
door this month.

I've been pleasantly and continuously surprised with the innovative
and steady work McKool has been doing in this city, and I'm really
happy he's partnered with Paxahau for the new branding of DEMF. It'll
bring in a very diverse new blood of artists into the DEMF arena.
