I've been listening to heaps of Cerrone of late - I think he's the bomb.
I am amazed he doesn't get more props - he should be in the same league as
Moroder, his Supernature LP is perfect to me, especially tracks like Sweet
Drums.
It's funny as I spoke to Laurent Garnier in an interview a few weeks ago and
he was saying how all his generation in France were so dismissive of
Cerrone, it was embarassing and not cool. But of course Cerrone has since
been rediscovered by French producers and those from elsewhere - Bob
Sinclar's new album Champs Elysees owes much to his style (Cerrone advised
him on aspects, Le Fraint used Cerrone's backing singers, etc). And Daft
Punk I reckon borrowed that quirky mask idea from the sleeve of Supernature.
I imagine that some of Cerrone's work was popular in the days of the early
house scene in the US - I think Kevin Saunderson once cited Supernature as
his favourite all-time track (or one of them) and this partly prompted me to
rediscover his work as I too loved that track as a kid. I recently located
Saunderson's remix of it and like it very much, very E Dancer-style - it's
on a CD of Cerrone remixes.
Anyway, what are Cerrone's definitive albums?
