Don't think of it as dead, think of it as low maintenance.

The 313 list might be affected by people moving to facebook or forums,
but I'd rather have a small amount of high quality conversation than,
well, facebook, twitter and forums. It's easier to read, easier to
follow, there or no ads, and no one is harvesting your personal
information to sell to advertisers.

The fact is that there are still 439 people subscribed to the 313
list. Leaving aside the 3 or 4 subscribers who post about their radio
shows, there is no one left who posts regularly. Just 400+ people
waiting for someone to start a discussion.

People might think there just isn't enough new dance music coming out
of Detroit (or Detroit-influenced, which is definitely part of the
list's purview) to spark discussion. I don't think that's true. I
just think the subscriber list is out of the habit of coming to the
313 list first to start discussions about it.

I subscribe originally 15 years ago (!) because I wanted to learn
more. I'm still no expert and want to know what's up. I can't force
people to post, and I'm not going to post just for the sake of
traffic. But yeah it would be cool if things were a little livelier.
