I wasn't here at the very beginning but pretty sure I joined at the prompting of Aran Parillo, who dropped off several years ago, despite being the early champion and expert on all things Drexciya.
I think that the quietude of the 313 list stems from a couple of causes: 1. Competition from other social web thingers -- Facebook, Message Boards, etc. 2. Deaths in the family. Several valued former 313-ers are no longer with us. 3. Detroit Techno itself. It isn't dead, but the period from 1985-2000 was a big upheaval, corresponding almost exactly to the rise of the Internet. There are still people in and around Detroit making music, and even more around the world who can legitimately claim to be inspired by Detroit, but the focus and urgency of the early years is no longer there. 4. Aging of the audience. It happens at different points in everyone's life, but there comes a time when a good night's sleep starts winning out over standing in an unheated warehouse in the dark, losing your hearing one kick drum at a time. Juan Atkins turns 50, Kevin Saunderson 48, Derrick May 49. Think about it. The Belleville 3 are at the same chronological point in their careers where the Beach Boys were in the 1990s. Or to put it another way, in the mid-80s, when Techno was getting going, 30 years prior was Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Elvis. The fact is, despite its pervasive influence, it is not a music to which many 16 and 17-year-olds connect with. Older people aging out of the Techno tribe are not being replaced by new recruits. Which is one reason I'm a huge admirer of Mike Huckaby's educational efforts. He is a living link between the past of Techno and the kids that are potentially its future.
