I think you're right about that interpretation Dan. It's only if you have prior knowledge of the tune and it's origins that you understand the double meaning of "Detroit Techno Ford Focus". What can be said is that someone at the ad agency is a techno fan. It's usually someone within the ad agency scouting out potential music sources....not within the company being advertised. The Ford spot might be a different case, but from my experience in the ad business it works this way. Someone in the ad agency's creative department has a big smile on their face right now because they are a techno fan and they got to finally do what they wanted to...express their love for techno.

I think it's supposed to be a broader interpretation for those
outside Detroit or fans of the music --
think shorthand for "detroit technology."

Somewhat of a nebulous headline, but I've read a lot worse.

i just don't understand the end of the commercial:

DETROIT TECHNO
FORD FOCUS

like they meant one and the same. do they want you to think Detroit
techno inspired the Ford Focus?

seems kinda silly.

Saw the Ford ad last night on fox and it is pretty cool. It seems
to be running pretty consistantly during prime time for those
wanting to see it here in the states. I checked out the site
televisioncommercials.com to see if they added it yet to their
site. Maybe if a few more people sent them an email it might get
added faster.
