Alright I really want to clarify this issue, so we can come to some
acceptable arrangement.

So the problem with mp3.com artists posts is:

a) They aren't 313 related?

How so? All my music is absolutely influenced by detroit - the same goes
for Christian I'm sure. Does it really come down to: we aren't from
detroit so we cant make detroit techno?

b) They are marketting related?

As mp3.com artists we dont stand to make a lot of money, and we
certainly aren't doing it for the pittance we receive. Furthermore the
mp3's are free to download, so we aren't asking for people to part with
their cash. Yes, we are posting about our _own_ material but how is that
morally wrong, except by some victorian standard.

c) They don't contain enough information in themselves?

Well that's certainly true of a lot of the update posts. It's certainly
not true of my last update post for instance, which covered such things
as detroit techno soundtracks and originality with the basic channel
sound. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of follow up posts discussing
the music like you would hope - but that isn't really the artists fault
- and if that is the problem with the posts then it really calls from
more involvement by the list not less.

d) There is too many posts?

Well in the 1321 messages in my 313 folder 10 are mp3.com updates.
That's 0.7%, hard to blame the degredation of 313 on that. Still a
website with updates, or a once a month newsletter might be a better
option - i'm happy to compile such a thing.

e) The artists aren't good enough?

The various record labels that the artists have released on says
otherwise. I thought we more than happy to discuss smaller artists, if
they were 313 related.

I really want everyone with an opinion on this to have a say so that we
artists know where we stand.

Scott.
