in what way? when i listen to jazz ornette coleman, miles davis, sun ra,
don cherry, art ensemble, whatever, i hear very different things than when
i listen to derrick may, stacey pullen. basic channel, theo parrish or
moodymann.

i always thought that the essence of the music was the feeling it had,
where and when & how & by whom it was created. the characteristics you
mention are common to lots of different kinds of music and describe or
define very little. you could be describing a nursery rhyme.
