My name is dw and I'm attempting to respond to Fred
McMurray's post.

Personally, I’m ok with commercial use of original
compositions. I think that most (not all) people
creating electronic music in Detroit, legends
included, would jump at the 80K - 120K sync and
publishing for commercial usage. I sure would. That
said... I too was put off by the Focus
commercial...They should have used a T-1000 track!!!!
(just teasing Alan- hi) if it had been a cool-ass
concept car- sure...but THAT little Pinto?!

Quote: ‘I’m more interested in Ford’s robots than
Berry Gordy’s music”- Juan Atkins.

So then, Ford using Juan’s track may actually be
entirely appropriate. In a historical perspective it
makes sense to me. But then, I appreciated the Bob
Seger 'Like a Rock' campaign. Different aspects of
Detroit supporting each other is the way that I look
at it.

Being Realistic- Ford was going to do this promotion
with or without the blessing of Detroit’s Techno
community. The Ravers are a huge demographic now. Ford
was going to go after us with some kind of ‘Rave-y’
campaign, and I find it encouraging that they mads an
effort to keep it close to home- they certainly
weren’t obligated to. I think that their doing so
indicates an interest in being supportive.

If you were angry that they used ‘No More UFO’s’,
how mad would you have been if they hadn’t?! ‘Ford
Focus. Detroit Techno’ ...and like, Rabbit in the
Moon is playing...some trancy stuff HA!!!

FAR better that those corporate dollars get shifted
around the detroit entertainment community, than not.
can we agree on that? and C’mon...its Ford...a really
Detroit, community involved Company...It ain’t like
Derrick May is trying to sell us the new Krispy Kreme
Techno Doughnut...(note to self...kids love
doughnuts...kids love techno...explore...)

Anyway Fred...This could be, ‘business as usual’, but
with larger possibilities and opportunites to explore.
Or it could also be ‘business as usual’, do nothing,
and look forward to the Paul Oakenfold summer tour,
sponsered by Ford Focus...and the REALLY have
something to complain about.

Here’s the focus tv commercial storyboard that they
didn’t ask me for- those fools....Gary Arnet does the
graphics- really cool fonts flying by, , a camera shot
of Derrick May zippin’ by with your girlfriend in the
passenger seat of the dopest car you ever saw- one of
those concept cars we get teased with every
january....He’s late for his DEMF gig, while Carl is
on the decks spinning a Model 500 track, quick edits
of Tim Price looking involved, and Johnny O. looking
fancy....in the back ground of the action, I’m seen
having difficulty getting backstage to hang out.
Stanzler is handing out ‘Made in Techno-town
T-shirts... its a work in progress....someone else
take it from there...
