I honestly don't believe that keeping company with those folks will do him any favors whatsoever (out on the west coast). Heads who know already know and respect him. He's getting more and more praise all the time, not just from DJ's but in the mainstream dance press as well. Besides... respect is something everyone strives for, but it's not the end for which one strives (I hope) in the face of just making great music.
... speaking as someone who is out on the west coast. Ironically, what we do have going for us out here may have nothing to do with his vibe at all in a direct way. Thank God for Kit Clayton, Twerk, Safety Scissors, Danny Zelonky, etc. for keeping the west coast scene progressing and forward-thinking. Yall can have the Farinas et al :). I have fond memories of him bringing his Casio SK1 to high school and fooling around with it. Who would of thought that he would be making a career out of it. As good as Brian is, unfortunately he will always be overshadowed by the bigger acts in Chicago such as Roy Davis, Glenn Underground, Boo Williams, Paul Johnson or Cajmere. As long as he is in Chicago he always be seen as their protege instead of a peer. What Brian needs to do is move to the west coast like so many other Chicago artists (Mark Farina, Miles Maeda, Hyperactive, Gemini, Halo, Colette and Angel Alanis) in order to get the respect that he truly deserves.
