Sorry if this has already been covered, I'm on the digest at the moment. Right then...
rob (webb): > Richard Brown also works under the Cherry Bomb alias on Music Man. he was > also the "R" in RAC on Warp, RAC being Richard (Brown) and Chris > (Duckenfield). rob (merlak): > he wasn't R in RAC, that was Richard Benson... Yep, that's right, though Brown was also involved: "In 1991 Chris began releasing his own music (again with his DJ comrade Richard Benson) first on the WARP affiliated 'Nucleus' label and later on WARP itself. The RAC project was well received by music lovers and the press alike, it also introduced Chris to Richard Brown (who engineered the RAC releases) who he has worked with ever since." <from the Swag website: http://www.swag-uk.com > > Point Blank is a collaboration between Duckenfield and Brown. I'd love > to hear an album from them... i have just phono ep... any news full length? As far as I know that alias is dormant... > Also while we are here... who is Swag? Chris Duckenfield and Richard Brown... > I really played a lot that mix Chris did for Phono... nice compilation > what's up with them anyway... didn't hear of any new output recently. I think they've dissolved - Herbert seems to have set up a new company which kind of replaces Phono and it's various offshoots and side labels (Lifelike, Antiphon, Phonography, Subvert, RAMS etc etc) which were getting extremely confusing! There's a bit more info on this at http://www.matthewherbert.com/ rob (webb) again: > i coulda sworn Jeroem Verhijj (sp?), aka Secret Cinema, was behind Point > Blank "Meng's Theme" on R&S. > > was/is there another Point Blank? Yeah, the above-mentioned Duckenfield/Brown collaboration on Phono - they did just the one 12" called 'A Game of Two Halves' which included an excellent Herbert remix... > i remember a Point Blank, or something similar, doing the first or second > release on Dave Angel's Rotation label - is this the Duckenfield/Brown one? Don't think so, and I don't remember a Point Blank on Rotation but I could be wrong... Back to Ducknfield: > Chris is also behind a house label called Primitive - the Primitive Tools > series of records. And also Odori - another Sheffield deep house/techno imprint. For the full scoop on all this, biographies of Duckenfield and Brown, full Swag, Primitive and Odori discographies and more check out: http://www.swag-uk.com/ And I'll just add that Swag are one of my favourite UK production outfits of the last few years, they've hardly put a foot wrong and consistently supply awesome deep, funky house and techno with some of the best drum production in the world. Chris is also probably my favourite British house/techno DJ, and one of the most impressive DJs all round that I've ever seen... Cheers, Tom
