Hey Dave,

OT stands for off-topic. Yes, the list is about 313 music and culture, so
313 musicmaking, and 313 musicmaking culture are going to fit in
there somewhere. However, it's off-topic and frowned upon because the
majority of list members are not musicmakers. To these people,
conversations about musicmaking intricacies becomes pure filller. I'm not
a DJ, so I know talking about the finer details of djing will make my eyes
glaze over and my finger triggerhappy over the D-key.

What is probably more appropriate is asking the list about a specific
question, and taking it privately with people who can help. One email is
much more fun than 30 emails and then 20 more about how gear is off topic.

Not that I'm the king of netiquette... but even better places to talk
about gear are IRC/ICQ/IM, because you can get instantaneous feedback if
you're stuck on something, or get into more heated debates. I think a big
reason that gear lists get so stale so quickly, is because email isn't the
best method of discussing how to be creative. Much more fun to be on the
phone or in the room. That and mp3.com spam :D
phew...
