Saw DJ Assault at Fabric (new superclub in east London) last night. I missed the Pubahs because of the ridiculous queue outside in 26 degree weather, about 50 of us waited for nearly 45 minutes to get in.
Assault was good, but seemed fairly upset which usually (from personal experience) means monitor or turntable problems. He was in 'Room 2' which is a fairly big one (maybe 40x60) up on a stage. And when I say 'up on a stage' every DJ will groan, because that means you are playing on top of a big springy drum. It looked like the turntables had no particular padding underneath. Anyway, lots of really fast tracks and plenty of good mixing, but you could practically predict the crowd yells everytime he did some scratching, even when it was fairly perfunctory, and no reaction when he spun a record out perfectly or did other Assault-style wonders. Not sure where I'll be tonight, Stacey Pullen is at the same Fabric tonight (in the big room, though, I believe), but I don't think I want to deal with the weekend masses again... phred
