Have a CDR looping of some original (ambient/easily mixable?) stuff in a CD-walkman nearby, plugged into the mixer. Rehearse fading it in smoothly without flipping out on stage when your machine locks (like it will, at the worst possible moment). Practice recovering your set from a sudden crash as quickly as possible (get someone to reset your machine while you are playing and see how you deal). If you are playing from a PC it's amazing how many people presume you aren't doing anything much and come and start yakking on about "this amazing program called Rebirth that you should check out", or the latest motherboard they got or whatever. Ignore them, or have a sh-101 or something out in view so they know you are playing music and won't get in your face.
