hi ~ this friday evening is the opening gala event for the 4th annual international anti-auto show.
detroit contemporary (5141 rosa parks) 01.13.01 7pm-12midnight performances by: year of the robot dj k-car perspects tickets are $10, reserve by calling 313-498-4ART the anti-auto show provides the community with an alternative to the north american international auto show that invades detroit every year. at the anti-auto show, artists of all genres probe beneath the glitz & glamour of this year's models to examine the true & many facets of car culture, for better & for worse. all proceeds from the anti-auto show will be used to purchase bike racks for detroit hot spots. the anti-auto show is produced by a collective of consumerist-weary, transit-riding, bike-liking detroiters and is co-sponsored by cjam (91.5 fm windsor/detroit) & motormouth. there will be many excellent artists (local & even intnat'l) displaying their work as well; for brevity's sake, i direct you to www.detroitcontemporary.com or www.motormouth.org for this information, as well as for details about the closing night event (jan 19). secondly, i thought some people on this list may be interested to hear that patrice rushen has been newly-appointed as the detroit symphony orchestra's visiting composer. her latest composition, "mine eyes have seen the glory" - a tribute to martin luther king, jr. - will make its world premiere sunday, jan 14, 3pm, @ orchestra hall, $10. neat stuff. kelli
