I understand what you're saying about wanting to hear more than two mins of a record. I agree that with house you can't cut it up like that. I also agree that Derrick Carter is superb at mixing (haven't heard Mark Farina yet). I think however, that with Techno being quite minimal you can do more tricks with it to create more variety. If you were to hear most of a hard, minimal Techno track (or a lock groove) it could get a touch boring. If you only play say, 1 minute of the same track and add some tricks then it becomes more interesting. With Dave Clarke, he's constantly working the mixer which I persoanlly find quite entertaining. I must add as well that his "timing" is brilliant. I think as well that I appreciate how hard it is to do what he does. Because everything is so quick, he doesn't have much time to que records in. I've tried to do the two copies of one record thing as well, mixing the off beats and it aint easy when your ear is trained to match beats! As for his comments about house, he is very outspoken about many different things and a lot of people have been offended by his comments. I actually saw Richie Hawtin take Dave's copy of "Zombie Nation" off the decks at Creamfields here in England and throw it across the stage, then a small arguement broke out. That was in front of a few thousand people. Have you heard Dave's latest track "Before I Was So Rudely Interrupted"? It's a great House track, as is "Compass" but it is another "booty" track. So I think you should give Dave another chance Stuffed Bird! If you can, get hold hold of his "Live At The Fuse Club" CD - I think you could be converted! :) ( - to the greatest Techno DJ to emerge from the U.K!! :) :) )o Mr. G P.S Cool name by the way!
