howdy folks

i remember reading an interview with francois kervorkian in which he made a
good point about the lasting quality of music, disco in this instance. i
can't remember the exact quote but his point was that disco was / is
comparatively 'coarsely' made as far as involving real players who, as we
know, tend to be able to play with a feel or groove and that the
combination of these players etc resulted music that contains a lot more
'life' if you like than music which never contained those complex, subtle
elements, such as music that is rigidly over quantised or made from
commercially available sample CDs.

as we all know the ease of making music with sequencers and sample CDs has
resulted in vast quantities of dull and uninspired music. nothing good or
lasting comes easy it seems.

its not the technology, its the way people use it. it has the potential to
produce something that sounds like music with minimal human input. i that
people are right be be wary of new technology which even further remove
coarse, unpredictable, human input which in turn may result in something
fairly sterile and uninvolving. not to say that it won't produce good
results as well. anyway it's all pretty abstract at the moment.

AND

i was listening to the deep dish 'penetrate deeper' comp the other day,
very nice, very deep stuff, i think they have progged out a bit since this
unfortunately. the bt tracks are very strange, incredibly unsophisticated
and pretty cheesy compared to dd's own tracks.
