I just checked the SBS website and:
Saturday 27th January.
1.50pm ARTS ON SATURDAY:
MODULATIONS: CINEMA FOR
THE EAR - Brazilian-born,
US-based filmmaker Iara Lee,
whose documentary Synthetic
Pleasures has already screened
on SBS, here dissects the craze
for electronic dance music.
Archival footage of seminal
performers such as John Cage
and Karlheinz Stockhausen;
Robert Moog of the Moog
Synthesiser; 70s German
art-rock bands such as
Kraftwerk and Can; Eurodisco
innovator Giorgio Moroder;
industrial noise units such as
Britain's Throbbing Gristle; the
early hip hop DJs who
manipulated vinyl on their
turntables to create "scratch"
music, and many more. Lee
traces the tribal roots of such
styles as 'house', 'acid',
'ambient', 'Detroit' and 'German
drum and bass' and the
program features performance
clips from such bands as
Prodigy, Moby, Money Mark,
Future Sound of London and the
Invisbl Scratch Piklz in the key
centres of the US, Germany,
Japan and Britain. (From the
US, in English). M (L) (Rpt)
