Not exactly experimental in their beats...but Digable Planets have always been a favorite of mine. Definite dub influences in a lot of their tracks and sweet stream-of-conscious lyrics.
You may also want to check out some of dj slip's stuff. He does some hip-hop type stuff that's pretty out there. I'm currently working on a project combining berlin/detroit dub techniques with dirt deep hip hop beats....I'll keep you posted on that if you're interested.
