i hate to say this, and i don't want to scare anyone, but here goes: - sometimes they will do random searches when you cross the border, for no reason other than they just feel like it, so be prepared to be searched. there is no such thing as 'probable cause' for a search by the border cops.
- even though probable cause is required for a detroit/michigan state cop to search you, they can lie and say you 'looked suspicious' or were 'acting suspiciously' - friends of mine with dredlocks have been questioned/searched every time they cross the border - if you have an accent when you speak, make sure to have your passport/green card/identification ready to show the border people. my dad *is* a u.s. citizen and gets harassed on a regular basis because he does not have a green card or passport (u.s. citizens *do not* have green cards). for information on your rights when in the u.s. go to www.aclu.org (american civil liberties union) for a guide on what to do if you have an encounter with the police, and your rights, go to: http://www.aclu.org/library/bustcard.html you can never be too safe when dealing with the authorities... ani :) record time [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.recordtime.com ph 810.775.1550 fax 810.775.5830 icq# 33610265 want to be on the record time mailing list? send an email message from the address you want to subscribe with "subscribe" in the subject
