this weekend was very momentous for st. louis techno. we dont have many techno parties. the "all techno" parties only come from the techno scene, and happen once every 3 months or so. techno is definitely back on the rise now, and i would say st. louis has become filled with more techno producers than any other electronica genre.
this weekend St. Louis was lucky enough to be graced with the presence of Mike Parker and Max Duley. (yep, they came down after NY) Mike has come down to St. Louis twice before and is, I would say, the favorite techno artist of this city. That or the most frequently booked "headlining" techno artist. Mike and Max were totally and completely off the hook. Both of them had 2 hour sets. Max played some very interesting stuff. I dont think i can compare it to the music of Mike at all. Max played a lot of bangin stuff, a lot of melodic techno, some jazzy sounding stuff, something id call a danceable relaxed set. not something that carola or beyer would play. Maxs set was absolutely wonderful, and honestly he had the dancefloor the most packed of all the other djs. max played a variety of techno, he explored the spectrum well. i think his music was definitely powerful and persuasive. i watched him manipulate the room.. record after record. he was an awesome dj to watch. the look of control and composure on him was very definitive. he had flawless mixing, and his track selection was beautiful. his control and confidance over the decks was also very noticeable. he was an excellent dj, a great producer, and he is someone i would recommend booking. mike parker. what does one say about this guy? in my opinion, he's a god. he had the power to change feelings, emotions, states of mind.. mike plays some killer techno. stuff that will make you whig out, even if youre sober. every time i see mike i am just blown away. mike played a very deep and dark set. he played a few records off of geophone, like drain hum, and some others ive heard but dont know the name of. he played the new GPH007, copper variations, he cut with max, an awesome record. mikes set was just absolutely beautiful, it came full circle... scary to loving.. deep and dark to omnious and light feeling. mike definitely knows what hes doing. his composure and control on the decks is another great thing about mike. he knows exactly what hes doing, he has no second thought about it, and when it comes out of the speakers its just awesome. watching this man wearing all black, without emotion on his face, dropping this utterly sick track with everyone arou! nd dropping their jaw or clenchi ng their head in awe.. or fright.. was just awesome. mike is one of the most moving techno artists i have ever seen & heard. his music is by far some of the most powerful sounds i have ever heard. i would recommend booking Mike Parker in a heartbeat. very professional guy, very nice and down to earth, and he has magic in that record bag. having mike and max play was an awesome force. these 2 both moved the party and took everyone on a trip. watching the two of them would leave you speechless, or in a sweat from dancing. i simply cannot say anything bad about their music or technique.. and it is unfortunate that the only words which can express their awesome power is that.. THEYRE AWESOME if you want good minimal techno.. the kind for any occasion.. id book max duley or mike parker you can check WWW.Surveillance.Net for the audio from the party, as well as party reviews. give us a couple days to remaster the audio and collect reviews. truely some of the most powerful techno sets youll hear. (the party was for a Surveillance Records release, Black Lodge) Hope that shed some light on Max & Mike for ya, Bob
