it seems like a lot to ask of a technics to put up the kind of torque to cut vinyl (even special vinyl or whatever) but I'm still interested...

there's a cottage industry just waiting for the first record shop to buy one of these, or the Vestax, and churn out dubplates for all their wannabe DJ / producer customers.
