I don't think you sound ridiculous at all. I wrote an undergrad paper back in 87 about this...and wish I still had it. To me house evokes something spiritual....and temporally speaking, something either present or past in the literal and figurative sense.
The sound of techno itself represents an urban future to me. Not necessarily a utopia, not necessarily a dystopia, but the future. Depending on the individual track the emotion can be joyous (strings of life), or contemplative (nude photo), but it is future oriented. But I'd say my feelings on this are MINE....I grew up on comic books, science fiction, and visions of Africa. I KNOW my feelings about techno as an artform have to have something to do with my appreciation for Frank Herbert's DUNE, or for Octavia Butler..... It'd be interesting to know how others think about this.... peace lks
