I think Phill Grasso is credited (or takes credit) for being the first DJ to have a continous mix of music. This would have been in the mid sixties. He was the resident at Santuary right when the disco thang began to get big. Check "Last night a DJ saved my Life" (someone help me with author), the book has a definitive history of DJ'ing.
