RE:

"I have come to the Mayday Parade to find out what makes techno tick. But first, a confession. My principal experience of this music was a visit in 1990 to the London club Heaven on techno night. I spent six hours there chewing my cheeks and clinging to a pillar for fear that the world would collapse should I let go, and the brutal, never-ending beats and undulating waves of electronic pulses merely confused me. So the idea of spending a night in the company of 22,000 German ravers with spiky green hair was not a pleasant one. This would be an exercise in confronting my demons and making sense of this thing."

They obviously sent the wrong person.

"These DJs include Jeff Mills, who, as one of the members of uncompromising Detroit covert operation Underground Resistance, shares the techno tradition of being deeply suspicious of celebrity. He makes music that is spartan, cerebral and detested by the average happy-house fan. There's DJ Hell, famous for creating an ear-bleeding, stomach-pounding noise; and Mayday co-founder Westbam, who records an anthem for the festival each year, makes dark, simple electro trance that crescendos and sends German kids into a frenzy. There's the notorious Sven Vath, with his precision goatee and high profile, whose grandiose electronic pomposities make him techno's answer to Rick Wakeman."

Did this guy stop his research in 1995? He's waaay behind the current sounds of these artists and Jeff Mills hasn't been a part of UR for how long now??

"Last year, Sony Records Germany made the mistake of trying to get round this by releasing a note-for-note cover version of the UR track Jaguar by DJ Rolando. Banks heard about it, caught the first plane to Germany, armed himself, sought out the man proposing the release and told him that he would kill him and everyone else involved if the version went ahead..."

What?! Does anyone know if this is the way it went down? If this is unsubstantiated then I would presume that UR can bring some legal action against the Gaurdian for printing such a statement.

Hack job. Bad. Very very bad.

"WORLD LARGEST TECHNO FESTIVAL" - really!?!?

        http://www.guardian.co.uk/friday_review/story/0,3605,482416,00.html

Article from today The Guardian...I think they need to replace the word
techno with trance a number of times.

"But looking at this crowd, Underground Resistance's manifesto
seems a world away. The Detroit pioneers wished to create a
faceless music where the machine, not the person, was the
star. At 3am the crowd greeted Sven Vath with a roar. "

I think the above quote for me was all that was needed to be said, the rest?
pure jibberish and misinformation imho. Any thoughts..

Am I getting just too cynical in my old age?
