Speaking of dance music on the screen, I actually managed to catch that
'Around The World In 80 Raves' show on Channel 4, UK last week - the one I
posted about beforehand (normally I post about these things then completely
forget about them!).

Anyway, these Brits who are travelling around America sampling its dance
scenes visited Detroit (amongst other places) on Friday's edition. Before
they reached the city they had had their heads filled with stories of how
dangerous it was, loads of murders etc etc, and frankly, most of them were
sh*tting themselves as a result. When they got there they were shown first
visiting the office/studio of Electrofunk Records to get 'clued up' on
ghetto-tech (none of them had heard of it before), then the guy from
Electrofunk (big fat bloke - name anyone?) took them to a club playing the
music. Didn't catch the name of the place, but most of the Brits' eyes were
popping out at the sight of people bumping & grinding to - you guessed it -
'Ass'n'titties' (!). One of the women was a former stripper herself, though,
so she got right in there and was a big hit with all the local guys -
unsurprisingly. At the end of the (pretty short) segment the Brit contingent
were clearly relieved not to have been mugged or murdered and were burbling
on about how everyone they met in Detroit was 'actually really nice' (shock
horror), but to the viewers the overall picture presented of Detroit was of
a dangerous city populated by leering, pawing fat blokes making stupid music
about womens breasts (No, please don't let's start a thread about the merits
or otherwise of Assault/gehetto-tech). Oh yeah, at one point the narrator
referred to Detroit as "the home of American techno", but that was it.

So there you have it. Anyone else in the UK catch it?
