I would just like to express my concern over the recent events surrounding the firing of the man behind the DEMF. You should know that the music that Detroit has provided over the last 2 decades is appreciated all around the globe (even down here at the southern tip of Africa), and the DEMF represents an opportunity for people like myself, who don't get a chance to see many of our favourite artists often or at all in our own country, to celebrate the techno movement in the place where it all began.
The movement itself has been a unifying and entirely positive force in a world where even getting down and shaking ass are segregated activities. To create a rift in this unified movement and cause such negative publicity 2 weeks before an event of this magnitude is ridiculous to say the least. With the scene finally getting worldwide exposure and the artists involved finally starting to get the deserved recognition for their brilliant work, it is pitiful that this had to happen! I had already begun making plans to get to next year's fest before this story broke, but now I fear that the event may have lost its soul. I wonder how the festival will move forward without the vision of its founder and creative director, and more to the point, I wonder how many of the great artists who have graced the festival's line-up over the last 2 years would have taken part had it not been for the considerable influence and respect that Carl Craig commands. I don't profess to have all the facts but I still think that it's disgraceful that this was done at the time and in the manner that it was done, especially when the person concerned flattly denies the allegations and nothing more is offered from the accuser! Please be aware too that the people in the techno community will not rest until the facts are known, reasons are given and justice is done. All you've done is alienate the very people that made this all possible. The words "extremely silly" are the nicest ones I can think of! Disappointed that the machine has eaten the people again Evan Rice Johannesburg, South Africa --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
