Got back to NYC late last night... seeing the enormous stature of the NY skyline after being in Detroit felt good; like coming back to civilization. I'm glad to be home, but what an amazing wk/end I had! Detroit is definitely one of the strangest places I've ever been to, and while the DEMF contributed greatly to the atmosphere, I'm happy that I also got to finally see and experience much of the city itself outside the festival; it's people, architecture, landmarks, and culture. It really puts the Detroit sound in perspective. It's amazing to me how much incredible music comes out of such a small, broken down city like Detroit. There is alot of soul there...
Some of my favorite moments of the wk/end: Saturday: - Norm Talley rocking the ill Detroit and Chicago classix at the House stage in the early afternoon, most memorably: Was Not Was' "Out Come the Freaks" and D. May's "The Dance" as the sun peaked through the clouds and shimmered off the lake. An amazing introduction to Techno City! - Chaos live at the UR party doing "Afro-Germanic". Sick! Sunday: - Despite the technical difficulties, A Number of Names live was pretty dope... Chari, Vari... Chari, Chari, Vari, Vari!!! - Trackmode/Sound Signature party. Meeting Larry Heard. One of the best musical experiences of my life... nuff' said! I hope the Trackmode guys will be doing some parties in the NY area 'cause they've got the vibe! Respect. Monday: - Touring the Eastside of Detroit with Adam X, listening to Clock DVA. Seeing the Hiedelberg Project and the Packard Plant definitely opened my eyes to Detroit. - Sharing my umbrella with Jeff Mills and friends when the hail storm hit during Juan's set, and laughing with them at the absurdity of it all! There were many moments and many friends coming together who, despite all the stupid kids and corporate BS, created a real feeling of comraderie. Mad props to those who supported Carl Craig with all the T-shirts, stickers, banners, etc. Viva La Resistance! Detroit- thanx for the memories! -Jason --------------------------------------------- This message was sent via the Ulsternet webmail system. http://www.ulster.net --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
