Props out to Bill VanLoo who did a fine live set @ The Magic Stick in
Detroit last night (to a pretty low turnout). Bill endured some sampler
snafus but pulled through fine. If you haven't seen Bill do a live set,
it's a treat. He does some nice things with disparate sounds and tones,
layering them and holding off to drop in a crucial bit of percussion or
synth line which gels/inverts the emphases and throws you off. His material
is hard to pigeonhole...he moves it in and out of various genres. He did 2
sets last night; the first was more floor friendly, the 2nd more of a chin
stroking affair. I know he has a track on the Planet E "All Access" comp
and a 7" coming out (prolly in the fall) on City Centre - keep your eyes
peeled.
