The t-shirts for the Area 1 festival don't even list any of the Detroit DJs names. They lump them all together under Innovators. A bit of a scam imo as anybody who doesn't already know about Juan, Derrick, and Kevin isn't likely to have a clue as to who the "innovators" are. So there goes the support for Detroit really. The website wouldn't announce who would be DJing or when. I went to the Columbia MD show, and due to traffic, I got to dance outside the side tent exit for the last 10mins of Juan Atkins's set. Couldn't get in cause people were crowding at the entrance for Paul O. Well, at least outkast was fun. It really makes my skin crawl to think that for so many people, especially in the United States, Moby IS techno. I actually watched the first 15 minutes of his set from up close--Moby ran around jumped on his korg triton keyboard more than he pretended to play it, and in his own words "masturbated" with a heavy metal guitar solo. He was arrogant and shameless, musically moronic and completely devoid of funk. I used to to think that he was kinda harmless--I don't believe that anymore.
