Sounds like timo maas. He has 8 guys who sit in a studio all day in europe writing a part of a track that they do best (drums, synth patches, synth line programming, etc). He calls them up on tour, asks them to play the track over his cell phone, and gives his opinion on it. If you don't believe me, read remix magazine.
