Ughhh, I mentioned it a few weeks back when I got it on promo at the shop. Compared to his earlier work this LP is crud, the rhymes are weak (could we rhyme a little more about weed? Cmon.) and the production is subpar when compared to his last LP. I love all the earlier stuff and I was really anticipating this LP but after many listens I still can't get my groove on to more than two tracks.
The new Poets of Rhythm "Discern/Define" on Big Dada however is funk fuelled craziness with a great laidback attitude. Also watch out for the new Aesop Rock LP comin out in Sept called 'Labor Day' better than 'Float' and crazier than 'Appleseed' Cheers todd ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rob Theakston" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Holly MacDonald-Korth" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "'marsel'" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, August 08, 2001 12:33 PM Subject: RE: [313] New Hip Hop + New Soul? > nope. jay dee is from slum village, part of a production group called the > Ummah which was behind some of the beats for Tribe Called Quest, PhatKat and > a few other artists. he's done a hella lot of work in the past two years > aside from Slum Village, and most everything is beautfiul, sparse hip hop. > > on the new hip hop soul tip, i can not BELIEVE no one mentioned ROOTS > MANUVA. do not walk...run to your nearest shop and pick up his new LP, "run > come save me" on big dada/ninja tune. simply amazing hip hop. > also, check his first album "Brand New Second Hand" which had tracks > produced by West London beat guru IG Culture. > > > > > --------------------------------------------------------------------- > To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
