Well... from the get, Herbie Hancock was one of the original innovators of  
the whole Electronic/Jazz/Fusion thing back in the day anyway. The 
albums he did during the early to mid-seventies, such as Sextant and 
Thrust, illustrate this point most clearly; especially Sextant... an album that 
has no doubt inspired more than a few Detroit producers. And then there 
was Future Shock and the like during the early '80s, but I would hesistate 
to really classify that as being "Jazz" per se... to me it was more of an 
updated Soul, Electrofunk sound. But, nonetheless, it was no doubt 
influential in its own way as well.

It is interesting to see Herbie collaborating with the likes of Carl and 
Gerald. I've been wondering to myself for years when Herbie Hancock 
was going to team up with some Detroit guys.  It just makes sense, 
especially for Carl to work with him. I've been looking forward to hearing 
this for awhile...
