I don't know what US policies are, but here in the Netherlands turntables would probably be covered under standard policies, but a sizable record collection most definitely wouldn't. Insurance companies have a more or less standard profile for house/apartment insurance and a record collection worth several thousand $ does not exactly fit that profile :) If you don't explicitly insure that (or insure a lower amount than what it's worth), they'll claim that you're underinsured which reduces or possibly even voids the claims you can make. The same would hold for a high-end audio system or studio equipment.
