here's my thoughts on all the needles i've used/tried:

1) Stanton 500AL/505SK-great budget needle, best for the money, sound ok, long life, won't break. MAY have a hard time finding replacement needles (everybody uses them). can scratch on them, can mix on them, they do everything ok, burns your records slightly but not as bad as some others... keep the tracking at 4g

2) Shure M44-7-best scratching needle, will never skip and doesn't eat your vinyl, but they're fragile, and expensive

3) Ortofon Nightclubs-best sound quality needle, good skip protection, eats your vinyl about the same as a Stanton, VERY expensive though. get the OM version, the pretty ones have a channel go out occasionally.

4) Stanton Trackmaster/Groovemaster-if you're paying this much for a needle get the Ortofons instead

about the ortofon i use the scratch model- i must say i really like it since
i replaced my old stanton heads touching and using the decks are easy.
better sound quality and more.
