SR,P3-Live http://www.sr.se/p3/live/index_e.htm --------------------------------------- timezones: 9:03PM Sweden / 20:03 GMT-UK / 3:03 PM EST / 12:03 PM PST ---------------------------------------- anthony "shake" shakir is one of detroit techno's most underrated figures. since the late 80s, shake has contributed to nearly every aspect of techno's manifestation. while the spotlight was mostly cast on contemporaries derrick may, juan atkins, and kevin saunderson, shake was behind the scenes doing production, writing, a&r, sound engineering, and remixing for many important detroit labels and artists. this included work for KMS, carl craig, and octave one. as one of the first detroit producers to incorporate breakbeats into his music, shake's own forward-thinking productions have been released on a diversity of labels including juan atkin's metroplex, kms, 7th city, and peacefrog. his releases also appear in the catalogues of his own labels co-founded in the mid 90s -- frictional with claude young and puzzlebox with keith tucker. with influence extending beyond the techno community, shake has delved into work with local detroit hip hop artists. he has done downtempo production with releases on germany's klang and most notably his co-production of the urban tribe's 1998 release for mo' wax. although dedicated to innovation and experimentation, shake's sound maintains a soulful, funky feel reflecting the influence of jazz, r&b, and funk.
