Motreal is like Europe in that there's tons of quaint little hotels that are cheap scattered throughout the city.
i went there to see Innerzone Orchestra at their Jazz Festival a few years back. We just got off the plane, found the phone terminal with all the hotels and got one that day (on the eve of their biggest music fest.)
