These formats and Sun's .au too can use quite a few compression schemes, such as
uLaw, MACE, ADPCM (is that compression or just encoding?) etc. etc. These are
all lossy, though. I don't think there are ANY lossless compression algorithms
for sound, unless some corporation or the RIAA is sitting on a patent
