I did forget to mention Art Payne and Keith Martin, who I made a special effort to catch at their too-early time slot and was rewarded with a quite good and wide-ranging set. They even ended up with about 15 minutes in the Bass Zone (although nowhere near as fast nor of course as raunchy as DJ Funk later on :)
Art Payne is one of those guys who's been around forever and I think it's easy to overlook the role that he plays in providing a kind of institutional memory as well as a lot of good music. I always liked his reports in DMA magazine in the early 1990s, even before I knew anything about Detroit, and then I met him at the DRMC in 1994. But this was the first time I'd actually heard him play. He and Keith did a real nice job.
