Another cat or two to check out would be, Keith Le Blanc, and some of
the Mark Stewart & Maffia
stuff. Keith Le Blanc was part of the Sugar Hill Gang as a drummer
along with Skip Mc Donald and Doug Wimbish. Tack Head was another
name they all went by as well.

Cybotronic have been claimed as proto-techno, due to the
people involved with it, but their sound reminds of electro (without
the hip hop attitude) and, erm, UK pop dude Gary Numan. The
techno we got to know as techno (since the late 80s) has more in
common with house music than with electro.
In fact, I regularly listen to his "Replicas" and "The pleasure principle"
albums, which I have discovered a few months ago, and I really love them...
They sound quite "fresh" to my ears, and not at all that ridiculous,
especially since Numan's looks are starting to fade from the collecive
memories ;-)
Anyway, arguments about 'proper' electro and 'proper' techno
aside, *Mantronix* are the ones to look out for - with them,
electro acquired a sense of production sophistication without
losing the dance floor edge. If you crave for that mid 80s
sound, try out anything by them - production work, remixes,
their own releases - not only are their tracks great, their
vocal recording work is definitely worth checking out.
Thanks for the Mantronix reco, but I already know two or three of his albums
; I'll give them another try, but when I heard them I though his stuff was
too often the same, not enough differences from one track to another...
About Cybotronic : first time I hear mention of them, do they have any link
to Cybotron, who were these "people involved with them" ?
