Whilst I wouldn't say Blade Runner was formative, it certainly plugged into
me & my brother's already-primed 17/18 yr-old minds both conceptually (i.e.
the film) & musically (Vangelis' theme).

Strangely, I can never remember how the them actually goes, but whenever I
hear it, it sends a shiver down my spine.

For me, nothing dropped the 'favour-techno-when your-older' programming into
me more effectively than growing up in a Catholic (mostly white) background
in the UK and living in the sublime 1980's pop era.

'Don't you want me' by the Human League was number one (seemingly) forever
in the UK in 1982, remember.

Add to that Joy Division, then New Order, The Cure, Heaven 17, etc, and I
think your fate's sealed.
