Not sure about 'greasy grime'. You want to avoid anything that will also eat away at the vinyl though. In some cases the grime may be less detrimental than the solvent. I'd still try distilled water first and if it doesn't work track down some gruv-glide - 2nd-hand record shops may stock it.
