Dear all, following numerous calls, e-mails and letters (including about 50 people coming up during a recent set at The End by Mr. Masters) asking what is happening with BASE and when we are starting up on Thursdays again. we felt it was time to let everybody know what was happening. Obviously the speed at which we found out that we were approaching our last night at Velvet surprised us all but the speed someone was to take advantage of the situation surprised us even further. The techno scene in London has always worked on a system of collaboration, trust and working together until now. Within six days of our closing, whilst we were away on a weeks break thinking about which direction to move the club, plans had been announced for a new thursday night techno club in London involving some people that had helped to promote and had played at the club. Despite the fact that on our website and all our publicity regarding the last night we stated we were looking for a new venue (thanks to everybody who contacted us offering their venues or suggestions) a certain Mr. Mitchell thought different and presumed that leaving a message on our infomation line (which is just that, an info line that nobody checks for messages) was sufficient to find out exactly what we were doing and just took it that we were finishing for good. This is not the way things have normally been done in London and we along with a lot of other people were quite shocked when people we considered our friends went along with this course of action to take advantage of the Thursday night crowd we had built up over the last six years (nine years if you include The Drum Club), and even were booking the same guest dj's who had been playing at the club! The saying 'kicked in the teeth' has some meaning here. However we don't feel that the scene in London is big enough to support two clubs on a Thursday and it is not in our nature to be combative or vindictive. so we will not be re-opening BASE for the moment, as this would only be in opposition and would possibly split and weaken the scene which is the last thing it needs at the moment and is opposite to our ideals which has been always to support and help the scene. The new night has absolutely nothing to do with us. We will continue with our nights in Barcelona and Portugal and as well as doing one off parties in London at both the End and other venues. Also we will be starting Internet broadcasts on Thursdays for those of you who are not from the London area. We'll keep you updated with everything over the next few weeks Thank you for your time BASE --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
