Believe it or not, I have been invited to DJ at Revolver in Melbourne tonight! I can sequence but I can't mix and there will be no scratching or EQ magic or 909 spectacle, but the vibe is a Sunday night one, anyway. I will play heaps of Detroit music, from Blackman & Arnold to Moodymann to Derrick May to Sean Deason and Stacey Pullen to the ace new KMS, so it's a good chance to hear that music on a big system and hear the entire mix. I will also play some soulful R&B, old and new, like Les Nubians, and classic material like Propaganda. I will play after Richie Rich (who has something like a Final Scratch type set-up and will play old and obscure favourites - I hope he plays FREEZ!!!) and DJ Mahi (amazing deep house DJ). You can also play pool and get nice cheap Thai food and (my poison of choice) coffee!! It's the end of winter and the weather is wonderful (please God, no more bronchitis!!!) so that's something to celebrate.
Next Saturday I am playing Club UK with some friends from the magazine I write for, Play - I think I will use this as an outlet for my R&B/hip-hop (NERD to Timbaland to, er, Khia) but again I will sneak in some surprises from the likes of Model 500.
