I find this is already how it works for me. I don't mind spending a lot of time sifting through Real Audio samples at home, because I find it allows me to filter out my impulse purchases at the shop. It's never fool-proof, but with so much amazing music coming out, I will at least make sure I don't overspend on stuff I don't want, even if I still can't get everything I do want. I think the scenario you're describing is pretty accurate. I don't foresee the death of vinyl any time in the next 10 years, even with Final Scratch arriving on Mac and gaining acceptance. A couple of years ago people were heralding the doom of vinyl via new compression formats, and we're still not seeing them emerge with anywhere near the speed they were predicted. mp4 was 'just around the corner' three or four years ago, if I recall... If anything, the new encoding technologies are being developed faster for audiophiles than for piracy, see: SACD and DVD-Audio. But most importantly, a sizeable chunk of people are still going to seek the thrill of cracking open that brand new slab of wax, checking out the hidden messages in the matrices and throwing it on the platter for the first time, booming from ortofon + technics + crappy mixer + nice speakers. >So, anybody need some fly underwear? Yes please, unless that's a strange permutation of fly paper. :) Tristan ===== Text/Mixes: http://phonopsia.tripod.com Music: http://www.mp313.com Contact: [EMAIL PROTECTED] New Mix in mp3, 'Live in Iowa City' available for a short time from http://phonopsia.isoprax.com
